Great training makes good pilots and the folks at JEFA are dedicated to providing the best training available. The list of courses below are all on the JEFA plate. The Private, Instrument, and DA40 Groundschools are currently being offered. A Mountain Flying course is in development and will be offered soon. The other classes will be developed and offered based on membership interest (and aircraft availability!) Classes are scheduled on demand. ContactMark Smith to put your name on the list for a course.
** Jeppesen employees receive a discount on Jeppesen materials at the Jeppesen pilot shop - Sky Supplies - near Centennial Airport.
Other classes are also being offered by the Colorado Pilot's Association, The 99's, and others. Check the calendar in the Events section page for non-JEFA classes!
Classes
Private Pilot Ground School
The Private ground school is designed for the beginning learner. The student will learn about the fundamentals of flight, flight operations, aviation weather, performance and navigation. We will be using the Jeppesen developed Guided Flight Discovery for Private Pilots syllabus. This would be a good class whether you want to become a Pilot or if you just want to learn more about aviation. Prerequisites: None
Instrument Ground School
This ground school is designed to take the learner to the next level in aeronautical competence. This course offers in-depth learning on topics such as the principles of instrument flight, instrument charts and procedures and ends with advanced instrument flight operations. We will be using the Jeppesen developed Guided Flight Discovery for Instrument/Commercial Pilots syllabus. Prerequisites: Private Pilot Ground School or Private Pilot Certificate
DA40 / G1000 Transition Training
The DA40 / G1000 transition training is designed to help a pilot transition from the legacy analog technologies to the emerging advanced technologies within general aviation. We will be using the Garmin-developed DVD and the G1000 pilot's training guide to learn about the fully integrated flight instrumentation, location, navigation, communication, and identification data systems. This training will ensure the pilot can utilize all of the system capabilities in a safe and efficient manner. Pre-Requisites: For flight - Private Pilot's Certificate, for other - none.
Garmin GNS530 - VFR/IFR - Advanced Avionics Training
Recognizing that although the GNS530 and other advanced avionics are designed to help the pilot, without training, knowledge and proficiency, these valuable tools can add complexity, frustration and workload to the pilot while proving to be a distraction and ultimately a safety concern. This training will provide the knowledge to take advantage of this technology and the pilot be afforded greater functionality, flexibility and situational awareness.
This offering will cover all of the basic VFR functions with topics such as, Comm. tuning, VOR tuning and ID, VLOC verses GPS, GPS Chapters/Pages, Creating VFR flight plans, Traffic Information System, and DIRECT TO Navigation as well as the more advanced IFR functions with topics such as, Personalizing the displayed information, Creating IFR flight plans, Flying point to point with GPS, Using the GPS during vectors, Joining victor airways, Precision and non-precision terminal procedures, Holding, OBS mode, Creating user waypoints, and Setting up the scheduler.
